Photo Story: Soccer Sunday


The Emerald Coast Cup was held in sunny Fort Walton Beach, FL. The weekend tournament hosted teams from all over the southeast ranging in ages U9 – U19. From Auburn, AL the Auburn Soccer Club (ASC) 15 Girls Blue team traveled four hours to play in the tournament. With games scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, the Auburn girls had a full weekend ahead of them. This photo story takes you through their last day of the tournament.

The tournament was held in Fort Walton Beach, FL at the Preston Hood Athletic Complex. Due to the number of teams competing, the athletic complex turned their baseball and softball fields into soccer pitches for the weekend.

Coming into Sunday, the last day of the tournament the ASC 15 Girls hadn’t won a game yet, but they were determined to win their last game. As they lined up for the start of the games the girls sounded off their team chant, “ASC, ASC, 123… ASC SWOOOO”

Defender Nia Saint-Jean runs up for the throw in. With a powerful throw Saint-Jean helped move her team up the field and into scoring position.

Goalie, Elizabeth Glatfelter, cradles the ball as her defenders back her up. Backbone of the team, Glatfelter calls the plays and leads her team on the field.

Attacker Piper Kemp drives after the ball as it bounces up field. To get past the other player she throws her leg and shoulder in front of the girl to block her path to the ball.

While other teammates watch on midfielder Sarah Lockhart tries to knock the ball out of the air to gain possession.

Subbed out, forward Shaylee Phillips, hydrates on the bench while cheering on her teammates. Known to her teammates as ShayMoney, she wears a money headband to show off her personality.

As defender Nia Saint-Jean tries to control the ball goalie Elizabeth Glatfelter watches on and defender London Lucas runs over to help. In the final minutes of the game it was crucial that the ASC 15 Girls kept possession.

After scoring the only goal of the game forward Shaylee Phillips and midfielder Piper Kemp celebrate. Phillips’ goal cemented the win for the ASC 15 Girls blue team.
