Being a student-athlete in high-school can be hard, especially when it’s senior year and you are taking all hard classes and filling out college applications. It’s even harder when you have to balance Dyslexia on top of every day task. For my brother Macalsiter, every thing can be difficult through his eyes.

Working out is one of Macalister’s favorite hobbies, this because he dose not have worry and stress about his Dyslexia triggering up. His mind is clear when he works out, he could do it for hours on end if he could, he calls it his “escape”.

Some people have a fear of spiders, others are scared of storms, Macalsiter’s is reading. It’s silly to say but he fears having to read, to many its easy and very relaxing, but to Macalister it looks like a bunch of scrambled words on a page.

Dyslexia is a battle faced like no other, in times where most kids can finish assignments in little time, it takes Macalsiter double the time to finish the smallest task. Even though he is a straight A student, , most people think learning comes easy to him and do not realize the time it takes him to get work done.

Macalister is the caption on the Buford Varsity Golf team, something he loves to do, but also struggles with. Even with playing sports as he struggles with the numbers on the score card, and when he reads his range finder, he sees number that are not right making it difficult to hit the right shot.

Alongside of having Dyslexia, Macalister is far-sided and has to wear contacts and glasses at times, so it makes it even more of a struggle with his vision. This photo represents what it is like to look through his eyes with his vision impairments.

Just a normal kid doing teenage boy activities, but people do not realize even his video games can play tricks on him with the keyboard and controllers. We do not see through the eyes of people who struggle with Dyslexia, the smallest everyday task can be hard for them to grasp. Simple things like sending text or reading a menu are hard for Macalister, but every day he shows us that Dyslexia does not define him, and he can overcome any challenges it may bring.
